A large sample of Leposoma (Squamata, Gymnophthalmidae) from the atlantic forests of Bahia, the status of Leposoma annectans Ruibal, 1952, and notes on conservation Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Rodrigues,Miguel Trefaut; Dixo,Marianna; Accacio,Gustavo Mattos.
Leposoma annectans Ruibal, 1952 is resurrected from synonymy with Leposoma scincoides (Spix, 1825). Both were obtained syntopically, along with new specimens of Leposoma nanodactylus, from remaining Atlantic forests of the State of Bahia. Leposoma annectans differs from Leposoma scincoides by having a posteriorly enlarged interparietal with slightly concave and divergent lateral margins; parietals as long as large and shorter than interparietal; by the presence of a small scale separating third pair of chinshiels from infralabials; by presenting a large and almost squarish third supraocular; by the presence of sharp striations in the ventral part of head; and, by its shorter body size and relative tail length. Additionally it differs from L. scincoides by...

A new species of Leposoma (Squamata, Gymnophthalmidae) from the remnant Atlantic forests of the state of Bahia, Brazil Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Rodrigues,Miguel Trefaut; Dixo,Marianna; Pavan,Dante; Verdade,Vanessa Kruth.
Leposoma puk, a new species of the scincoides group is described from the Atlantic forests of southern state of Bahia, Brazil. The new species is characterized by a single frontonasal; elongate dorsal and lanceolate ventral scales arranged in diagonal rows; weakly striated or smooth scales on top of head; a longer than wide interparietal, with almost straight lateral margins; 17-18 pores; third supraocular the largest one, wider than long and clearly rectangular in shape; a suture between frontal and frontoparietal scales coincident with the middle of the third supraocular; and, a black pigmentation in the venter or along venter margins in males. The discovery of this new species, sympatric with Leposoma annectans, L. nanodactylus, and L. scincoides ranks...

Chromosomal banding patterns in the eyelid-less microteiid lizard radiation: The X1X1X2X2:X1X2Y sex chromosome system in Calyptommatus and the karyotypes of Psilophthalmus and Tretioscincus (Squamata, Gymnophthalmidae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Yonenaga-Yassuda,Yatiyo; Rodrigues,Miguel Trefaut; Pellegrino,Katia Cristina Machado.
Cytogenetic studies were performed on five closely related microteiid lizards (Gymnophthalmini), three Calyptommatus species and Psilophthalmus paeminosus from the sand dunes of the middle São Francisco river in the semiarid caatinga of the Brazilian state of Bahia and Tretioscincus oriximinensis from the Brazilian Amazon region. The diploid chromosome number in Calyptommatus species was 2n = 58 in females and 2n = 57 in males due to a multiple X1X1X2X2:X1X2Y sex chromosomes system, while P. paeminosus was 2n = 44 (20M+24m): where M = macrochromosomes and m = microchromosomes) and T. oriximinensis 2n = 42 (18M+24m). A single pair of silver staining nucleolar organizing regions (Ag-NORs) characterizes all five species. Incorporation of 5-BrdU...

GROWTH PATTERN OF THE TROPICAL HIGHLAND GYMNOPTHALMID LIZARD Anadia bogotensis IN CAPTIVITY CONDITIONS Acta biol.Colomb.
CALDERÓN-ESPINOSA,Marta Lucia; RAMÍREZ,Angélica; JEREZ,Adriana.
ABSTRACT We estimated growth pattern and growth rate of individuals of Anadia bogotensis in captivity and under climatic conditions similar to those in the wild. We collected eggs of this species from communal nests from a highland locality in the municipality of La Calera, Cundinamarca, in Colombia. The eggs were incubated in outdoors terrariums, and the growth of the hatchlings was recorded until their death. The growth pattern fits a logistic model, in which individuals grow moderately at the beginning, and then their growth rate increases. The growth rate increases even after individuals reach sexual maturity and seems to decrease close to their maximum body size. It is a fast growing species that reaches sexual maturity at around 50 % of its maximum...

Lectotype designation and redescription of the Gymnophthalmid lizard Riama columbiana (Andersson, 1914) with notes on the type Locality Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Sanchez-Pacheco,Santiago J..
The poorly known Riama columbiana, Andean gymnophthalmid lizard from Colombia, is redescribed on the basis of syntypes and additional material. A lectotype is designated, its likely provenience is discussed, and its distribution and natural history are given.

Nova espécie de Bachia e a presença de B. Dorbignyi (Duméril & Bibron) no sudoeste de Mato Grosso, Brasil (Sauria, Gymnophthalmidae) Zoologia
Castrillon,Maria Ignêz; Strussmann,Christine.
A new species of gymnophthalmid lizard with reduced members (genus Bachia) is described after three specimens obtained at Cáceres (16º10'S, 57º41'W), in the State of Mato Grosso, western Brazil. Specimens were found under or inside rotting logs in forested or partially disturbed areas and are primary associated to the so called "cerradão" vegetation. Bachia cacerensis sp.n., belongs to the "bresslaui" group and is characterized by the unique dorsal color parttern, with seven longitudinal dark lines on a cream ground color; 49-51 transverse dorsal scale rows; 35 scales around midbody; 38 longitudinal ventral scale rows. Anterior limbs generally with four unharmed apical scales, resembling toes; posterior limbs with a single, unharmed apical scale. A...
